New Transformers TV Spot Shines With Badass Female Lead & More Dinobots

During last month’s Superbowl, we got a pretty lackluster trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. With tons of reused footage and nothing new revealed/ hinted at plot-wise, it was a let down for those who wanted to see something “new”. Whether it be scenes or trailer framing, trailers should stand out from each other. Luckily, Transformers: The Last Knight knocked it out of the park with its new Extended TV Spot!

This TV Spot accomplishes two major goals: (1) Introduces us to a new main character/ Cayde Yeager’s co-star Izabella (2) Confirms a sustained return of the Dinobots

Fight Like A Girl – Izabella Joins The Transformers Family:

Considering this film features the youngest main character of a Transformers film yet, it’ll be interesting to see if this is the most kid friendly Transformers film as well. After all, this ad did preview during the Kids Choice Awards; but then again, is a brainwashed killer Optimus really the film you want to start including kids?

Regardless of the age range of this film, there’s definitely some stellar storytelling going on in this trailer. Izabella is not only presented as a sort of “replacement” for Cayde’s daughter – who might have been completely erased from the story after her abnormally odd “Romeo & Juliet Law” storyline in Age Of Extinction – but is also shown to be one of the most coolest human characters in the franchise yet. Between leading a band of survivors in post-destruction Chicago and not being afraid to yell at Megatron, she’s already proven herself to be more badass than Sam Witwicky ever was!

We’ve had eye candy female leads. We’ve had damsel in distress female leads. We’ve had seductively manipulative female leads. It is LONG overdue that the Transformers films give us a strong female lead! Judging by this trailer, Izabelle has a big heart, big brains and big guts! So yah, let’s kick Decepticon butt like a girl!

Dinobots & Dinotots? – Could Baby Dinobots Be Reborn Dinobots?:

In the last trailer, we saw a quick shot of Grimlock who appeared to be getting attacked and killed by a military convoy. Considering how heavily the Dinobots were marketed in Age of Extinction and yet how little a role they actually played, bringing back a Dinobot just to kill him off would be cruel. Thankfully, it seems as though the Transformers universe has us covered.

I want all the DinoBabies <3 <3 <3

During the Superbowl, there was a mini Transformer segment that featured baby versions of three of the established Dinobots; but it was unknown whether these were just for fun or how they would be featured in the film. Would they be part of a flashback – since this film plays with time – or part of the present day? Well as we see in this trailer, the baby’s do exist in the present. Now considering we’ve see Grimlock quite a few times now and yet no sign of Slug or Strafe, it seems that these Dinobots could be ways for the Dinobots to survive otherwise fatale injuries. It seems strange for Izabella to be sleeping with baby Grimlock one second and seeing a massive Grimlock chewing on cars the next. Perhaps Grimlock is destroyed and then returns as a baby form until it grows up again. This would also explain why big Slug and Strafe are missing, they’ve already been destroyed/ recovered in baby form and Grimlock is the only large Dinobot remaining.

Regardless of how the Dinobots’ situation plays out, I am happy to report that this film finally seems to be on the upswing again. More Dinobot screen time and the FIRST instance of a badass female lead are enough to restore my faith in this film. Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23rd.
