Futurama is Back! Again!

The popular animated series Futurama is back. Again! But this time as a mobile game.

The 30th Century Fox (20th Century) comedy originally aired from 1999- 2003, then in 2007 it came back as four direct-to-video films and was picked up as a series again from 2010-2013 on Comedy Central. The show ran for 7 seasons total.

This time, it’s coming back as Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow,  the mobile video game.

The game is being developed by TinyCo who also developed games like Marvel Avengers Academy and Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff.

Andrew Green, head of business operations at TinyCo, says that he and the development team are huge fans of the show and want to do it justice.

“We’ve seen every episode five times. We knew that we needed to create a lot of new gameplay around space adventure to make this feel authentic, because this doesn’t just exist on a single playspace or regular-level playspace; we wanted to give people a real feel of exploration and how the characters interact in their adventures and deliveries together as well as make a really great story.”

As for the content of the game, fans shouldn’t be worried because they aren’t rewriting the series or having you live the series over again, just in video game form, these guys are doing something different.

“It feels like an ongoing kind of infinite series. We’ve taken where the canon is, where it’s left off on its last run with Comedy Central, and we are creating a new story that is more akin to one of the movies that they did between the Fox run and the Comedy Central run. There’s a big thing that happens in the universe, but it’s the universe as people know it and it exists after the Comedy Central run.”

Andrew says that they plan on keeping the characters we know and love in addition to “…creating new stories, getting deeper into the backgrounds of some characters that we don’t know and maybe even creating new characters eventually and definitely new planets and places of exploration.”

So fans, it seems like our beloved delivery crew are in good hands at Tiny Co.The game is still in the early development stages so there isn’t much else that we can reveal right now, but stay posted!
