Kate McKinnon to Voice Ms. Frizzle in Netflix’s Magic School Bus Reboot

Netflix announced yesterday that Kate McKinnon has been tapped to lend her voice to the lead role of Ms. Frizzle in their reboot Magic School Bus Rides Again. She will be replacing Lily Tomlin, who voiced the character for the entirety of the show’s 52 episode run on PBS. The Netflix series will modernize Ms. Frizzle, her classroom, and her school bus. Some of the things to look forward to are lessons in robotics, wearables, and camera technology.

When it was announced, it was one of those “Well, duh” moments. McKinnon is no stranger to eccentric characters and I have faith that she is going to blow this role out of the water.

Acting as executive producer is Scholastic Media president Deborah Forte (Clifford the Big Red Dog, Goosebumps), with Chris Gilligan (Ice Age: The Meltdown, James and the Giant Peach) set to direct. The series received the greenlight in 2014 with an order of 26 half-hour episodes.
