Mischa Barton Suffers Bizarre Breakdown, Voluntarily Hospitalized, Released Next Day

31 year-old, Mischa Barton, best known for her role as Marissa Cooper (The OC), was hospitalized on Thursday morning after neighbors called authorities stating that she was exhibiting bizarre behavior.

The incident happened at the Barton’s West Hollywood home. She was said to have been hanging over her backyard fence, only wearing a shirt and tie. She was screaming about Ziggy Stardust, her dog, yelling something to the effect of her mother being a witch and that something in her life was “world shattering.” In 2015, Barton sued her mother, accusing her of defrauding the actress of her money.

“Oh my God, it’s over! I feel it, and it’s angry!” she cried out after falling off her fence.

Police and firefighters responded to a possible overdose or jumper call around 7:15 am. Barton voluntarily left with authorities and was transported to the hospital for a full mental evaluation. She had been celebrating her birthday the night before and friends say that she seemed to be having a good time.

After being evaluated, Barton was released on Friday from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Hospital officials confirmed to her that she had GHB in her system. The actress claimed she had been drugged sometime during her birthday celebration and soon released a statement:

“On the evening of the 25th, I went out with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. While having drinks, I realized that something was not right as my behavior was becoming erratic and continued to intensify over the next several hours,” It goes on to say, “I voluntarily went to get professional help, and I was informed by their staff that I had been given GHB. After an overnight stay, I am home and doing well,” the statement continued. “I would like to extend a big thanks of gratitude to the professionals at Cedars-Sinai for their great care and professionalism. This is a lesson to all young women out there, be aware of your surroundings.”

This is not the first time Barton has been hospitalized for erratic behavior. In 2009, she suffered another breakdown where she became distraught and threatened suicide. Then, she was placed on an involuntary hold, 5150.

GHB is better known as the “date rape” drug which is usually placed in alcohol and acts like a depressant. The victim is usually unaware that they are consuming the drug, being that it is odorless and colorless.
