Mary Tyler Moore Dies at 80

It was reported earlier Wednesday that Mary Tyler Moore had been in critical condition in a Connecticut hospital, and it’s now confirmed that she has died.

Mary Tyler Moore became a television icon working on The Dick Van Dyke Show as well as The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Mara Buxbaum has been Moore’s representative for many years and gave this statement,

“Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.”

Moore played Van Dyke’s wife in his 1960s sitcom. She won seven Emmy’s over the span of her career.

Her role on her own show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show helped pave the way for women in television.
