‘Arrow’: How Dangerous is Susan Williams?
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the midseason finale of Arrow, if you haven’t seen it, catch up with us here.
If there is one thing that the hit CW show Arrow does well, it is keeping fans on their toes and have us playing this constant guessing games with themselves. Or maybe that is just me. One minute I think I am hot on the tail of a theory and then suddenly three episodes later, not only am I proven wrong…. I’m proven 500% wrong.
Some fans find themselves frustrated because a defined plot does not pan out immediately, but if there is one thing that I have learned in the past 5 years of following the show, it is that the plots are always amazing when they tie together. Like Season 2 for example!
Now, our mid-season finale was full action, drama, and death as per usual… but there was definitely some mystery to it as well. First, the mystery of Prometheus (which I will get into in a different article) and then… a more discrete mystery. Did you happen to catch the Russian reference that was hidden in the episode?
Think back to the episode for a second. It would appear as though the writers have left us with a clue for the future of the season… and that was hidden in the drink that Oliver shared with reporter and current love interest, Susan Williams.
Arrow co-showrunner Wendy Mericle explained:
Were we too obvious with that? I would call that foreshadowing more than anything else. Susan is certainly on that [Oliver-in-Russia] train, for sure.
Wendy Mericle recently spoke to TVLine about the Arrow midseason finale and addressed the implications of one of the episode’s more subtle scenes. Although it was seemingly inconsequential the first time around (when she met with a fellow reporter who gave her the photo of a younger Oliver in Russia), Oliver’s visit to Susan’s apartment revealed a very telling clue in the vodka that Susan served Oliver when he came to visit her after Billy’s death.
Given that this season’s flashbacks focus on Oliver’s time in Russian, it seems a bit too coincidental that Susan offered Oliver a Russian Vodka. What exactly is she hiding from our favorite vigilante?
Currently, it is unclear exactly what as to what her intentions are. But if she didn’t have wicked intentions, why would she be so desperately diving into Oliver’s past? Who knows… Susan Williams may represent an even bigger threat to Oliver than Prometheus does right now. Fist fights can be won, but not all secrets can be buried.
Arrow returns from its mid-season hiatus on Wednesday, January 25th at 8PM/EST on The CW.
What do you think? How dangerous is Susan Williams?
