Legends of Tomorrow Recap ‘The Chicago Way’

Eobard Thawne and Damien Darhk have made their way to 1927 in order to help Al Capone, and they have picked up a new team member along the way, Malcolm Merlyn. Aboard the Waverider, they get a signal of an apparition and head to the 20s in order to stop it. Nate tells them that they are coming in around the time when Capone’s ledgers are found, which leads to him being taken down. He and Ray find the man responsible, Eliot Ness, but Ray screws up and Ness is taken to Capone. Ness is about to be thrown to his watery grave when the team appears. They manage to save him, but Capone gets away. Damien is watching from afar and comments that the Legends took the bait.

The Legends take Ness to the Waverider in order to heal his injuries, but now, if time continues without him, Capone becomes mayor. Nate suggests that he pose as Ness in order to find the ledger. He and Ray join the CIA in raiding a club. Sara, Jax, and Stein go ahead of them to scout out the club before their arrival. Unfortunately, Damien appears with Eobard and they take Sara and Stein.

The remaining five Legends regroup and try to figure out their next move. Mick says that the only way they are going to be able to get the ledger and save Sara and Stein is by doing things his way, the criminal way. Mick has been feeling down since the loss of Snart, but now he really doesn’t want anything to do with the team anymore. So much so that he has started having visions of Snart, who is acting as his inner devil. Luckily, Mick and Amaya have a strong friendship and she is able to get him to act. They rush off to save Sara and Stein.

Sara and Stein are visited in their confinement by Malcolm. He offers Sara an incredibly appealing deal, saying that if she hands over the artifact that they stole from Damien, he will make it so that the Queen’s Gambit doesn’t go down. She can live the life that she has wanted, and have Laurel back. Sara refuses to take the offer, saying that she would rather live in a true nightmare than a false dream (good thing she experienced all that last week). After Malcolm leaves, Stein says that he can’t believe she didn’t take the deal. She replies that Stein has taught her that there can be severe consequences to their actions and she has to maintain the timeline. Stein then admits to altering his future and having a daughter. Sara is in shock and tells Stein that Lily isn’t real and that it has to be changed back. Before more can be said, Damien appears and takes Stein to Eobard.

The other Legends infiltrate Capone’s warehouse and find Sara, Stein, and the ledger. They make their escape, but everything isn’t as it appears to be. Back on the Waverider, Stein is acting very strangely. He goes to the library to look at the artifact and see if he can maybe figure out why they would want it so badly. Jax notices Stein’s odd behavior and is watching him in the library when he suddenly moves like a speedster. He warns the rest of the team, but can’t reach Sara as she enters the library. Nate appears to try and get her away from Stein. That’s when he suddenly shifts into Eobard. He runs off, locking himself on the bridge and opening up the cargo bay doors for the rest of his team.

Mick and Amaya go after Eobard with one of the guns from Rip’s armory. They stop Eobard, but the effects are only temporary. He manages to get away. Meanwhile, Sara and Malcolm face off. She gains the upper hand is going to kill him, but he throws out Stein’s name. Stein is about to meet the same fate as Ness earlier and be thrown into the water with cinder blocks on his feet. Sara appears, saving him. He asks how and she says that she gave them the amulet. Sara tells Stein that was more important was keeping her family safe.

Now that Eobard has the amulet, he reveals to his two companions what it actually is. He attaches another piece to the top and an astral projection appears. Eobard says that this is a compass and that he seeks the Spear of Destiny, which has the power to rewrite reality. That does not sound good in the hands those three. Eobard says that the first thing they have to do is find Rip Hunter.

Flash to 1967 where Rip Hunter is directing a movie and no longer has no longer has his English accent.

The last half of the season has been set up as the Legends will track the almost-formed Legion of Doom as they search for the Spear. In the comics, the Spear was used to control those that had super powers and was heavily involved in the stories of the JSA. So we will hopefully be seeing them again. A character who is also involved in the Spear story lines is Spectre. In the comics, Spectre takes different hosts and grants them amazing abilities as they are possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance. There is speculation that Spectre will make an appearance on Arrow as episode 13 is entitled ‘Spectre of the Gun.’ So, if Spectre is slated to appear, who is his host? Most recently, he has appeared as Detective Jim Corrigan. And if Spectre joins the Arrowverse, does that mean that Constantine (yes, please) might also make his return as the two would frequently team up.

My thought, there are two possibilities for a host if they don’t decide to introduce a new character: Snart and Laurel Lance. Mick is having “visions” of Snart in which he tells him to stop being a Legend and go back to being a criminal. Seems like more than just Mick’s mind playing tricks on him, especially since we know that Snart will become the fourth member of the Legion of Doom. My money is on Laurel possibly being the host because the Spirit of Vengeance would be right at home in her body after she was killed by Damien. She just made her return to Arrow in the mid-season finale, leaving everyone to question her return over the winter hiatus. Katie Cassidy signed a contract that spans all of the CW shows, so it is incredibly possible that she could start on Arrow and make her way over to Legends. Who else wants to see the Lance sisters kick some Legion of Doom booty together?

Lots of questions, lots of possibilities. I am excited to see what’s to come and don’t want to have to wait until the show returns in January.
