Thanksgiving Musings
For those who are unaware, today in the United States, Americans stop to give pause and be thankful in a holiday we call “Thanksgiving.” Usually, we go visit our family and/or friends and have a meal together, enjoy each others company, perhaps catch up, and be “thankful.” I know I am thankful for my family and friends, but it is impossible to ignore the mood of many in the United States: there is a nervousness and anxiety that a lot of people feel. Perhaps I am “living in a bubble,” but even with our pop culture heroes and celebrities voicing their concerns (as wonderfully shown here) and the outburst of hate filled symbols, it is understandable to feel afraid.
Well, if there is one thing I know being a proud geek, loving my Star Wars, comics books and movies, is that you, my fair reader, and me have at least some things in common. You love Star Wars as well? Superheroes? The awesome content here at FanFest.com? Awesome! So do I. Whomever you are, whatever you believe or whomever you love, I am thankful to be part of a larger community of sci-fi, comic, pop culture and geek/nerd community. As a wise Jedi once said “Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering.” So while it is certainly understandable to be anxious, nervous, or even scared, remember, my fellow geeks, that I am proud to stand/sit with you, whomever you are, with whatever background you have, together.
Now, let us sit down, enjoy some turkey, and watch some of The Simpsons marathon on FXX.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Greg was born and
raised with a love for wanting to
understand how life, the universe and
everything worked, so you can say his mind would always want to be in
a galaxy
far, far away. He also has a love for most things nerdy, including Ghostbusters,
Lord of the
Rings, Marvel, DC Comics and Harry Potter. He is very excited to
have found a “home” to express his various
views on Star Wars and everything
else that can be found on Jakku. Hope it earns him more than one quarter
portion. Darn you Unkar Plutt!
