‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’ Recap ‘Chapter 9’

This was a pretty cool episode and I really enjoyed it—it was a welcome reprieve from all the election hoopla from last night.

What made the episode even better was that we got to see AHS alum Taissa Farmiga once again. I don’t know about you, but I was glad to see her back on the show even if it was for just a single episode.

In the initial scenes of Chapter 9, we see Taissa’s character Sophie and her two friends venture into the woods to find the Big Shaker Mansion. They’re huge fans of My Roanoke Nightmare and are hoping to catch some ghostly action on camera. Unfortunately, they get more than they bargained for. They stumble upon a bleeding woman in the woods. She turns out to be the ghost of the producer who fled the Roanoke scene earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Dylan (Wes Bentley) reveals himself as, well, no one important. He’s simply been hired by Sidney to shake things up. What he manages to do instead is get Lee and Audrey out of the house and to the Polks’ property. There, Lee searches for the video tape of her murder confession and Audrey looks for Monet. Oh, and Dylan is severely hurt by one of the Polks. Once Audrey retrieves Monet, the two leave Lee and Dylan behind and go back to the house.

As this is all unfolding, Sophie and her friends are being interrogated by the police about the dead woman in the woods. It’s clear to Sophie (and to everyone else) that the police are doing some kind of cover-up. So, like any smart young person would do, Sophie urges her friends to go back to the Roanoke property and keep searching for clues.

Bad decision all around. One friend gets killed by Lee, who has eaten the witch’s heart and is therefore possessed.

The other two kids run for their lives, bump into a barely breathing Dylan, and head into the trailer where Sidney had set up the control room. And in there, they see Audrey and Monet on the monitors. They also spot Lee heading right for them. And again, like any smart kids would do, they resolve to go to the house and help Audrey and Money.

Again, bad idea.

Not only are they too late to save Monet, but they’re just in time to see the Forest Cult disembowel Dylan. To add insult to injury, they also get cornered by Lee who’s just kicked Audrey down into the cellar.

So, what happens to Sophie and her friend? They’re mounted on stakes and burned alive by the Forest Cult.

The next day, the cops find Lee who is so traumatized she doesn’t know what to do. And when they retrieve Audrey from the cellar, she pulls a gun on Lee. The police shoot her right then and there.

That means Lee is the last one standing…
