‘The Walking Dead’ Fans Start a Petition to Get Andrew Lincoln an Emmy Nomination
The Walking Dead is consistently ranked the top rated show on television. An astronomical number of fans tuned in to watch the Season 7 premiere last weekend and, in doing so, witnessed what was arguably the best acting we have seen from the cast to date. However, while the show gains praise from fans, acknowledgement from the official awards shows, such as The Emmys, has been few and far in between. The series has received 15 Emmy nominations and two wins since it’s debut in 2010, mostly within the sound, stunts, make up and special effects categories but, none have ever been for acting. Clearly, does not sit well with the shows dedicated fan base.
If you watched the Season 7 premiere, whether you loved it or hated it, one thing we can all agree on is the performance given by Andrew Lincoln was absolutely superb. Consistently, throughout the course of the series, Lincoln delivers in his portrayal of Rick Grimes and, yet, he has never been nominated for an award acknowledging his work. At the end of Season 6 and the beginning of Season 7, we see his character completely transform from a confident leader into a powerless victim/servant and, it was heart breaking.
Lincoln’s powerful performance at the end of Season 6 prompted fans to begin a petition to get the actor an Emmy nomination. After the Season 7 premiere, that petition began to gain even more steam.
While it’s a slim chance that the petition will actually help Lincoln get a nom, it is amazing to see the support for the actor come to live. The online petition is seeking 25,000 signatures and, at the time of writing this article, there are 18,391 supporters.
Fans are also showing their outpouring of love for Lincoln within the comment section. One fan posted:
“Seriously, who would have thought Mark, the guy holding the cue cards in Love Actually, would go onto play one of television most recognizable and badass leaders? Again, I’m more than impressed with actor. He deserves to be recognized for his talent.”
