‘Supernatural’ Stars & EP Reveal When They’d Like The Show To End

Supernatural, which premiered in 2005, is set to air its 242nd episode this October, making it the longest running series on The CW. After its season finales, the question of cancellation as well as when the show would end always entered the minds of the fans, and now executive producer Robert Singer, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have some idea as to when it would be a good time to call it quits.

“We talked about wanting to be able to know when our end was, and it was to be, let’s say 300 episodes, we could tell a 13-episode story,” Singer told Entertainment Weekly. “I think it would be bad for this show to just ride off into the sunset without a finale. I think we earned that.” As far as what the finale would consist of, Singer said, “I don’t know what that finale is, but we’d certainly like to have one.”

As for Padalecki and Ackles, they both agree that 300 episodes would be “time to say goodbye” and that they will miss the show when it does come to an end.

“I feel like if I ever show up to set and I feel like I don’t care, or if I feel like [Padalecki] doesn’t care, then that’s the canary leaving the mine. To this day, I have not really sensed that from myself or him… They’re paying us to bring that little bit of magic to what they wrote, and I still feel that magic today. The day I don’t feel that magic will be a very sad day, and I hope that day never comes,” said Ackles.

The season 12 premiere, titled “Keep Calm and Carry On” will see Dean reunite with his mother, Mary, as they race to save Sam from the Men of Letters. Check out the promo below!

Do you think 300 episodes is a good number for Supernatural to end on?
