Meryl Streep May Join ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel

The Mary Poppins sequel might show more of the Poppins family.

According to Variety, Meryl Streep is close joining the film. If Streep closes the deal and joins the Mary Poppins sequel, she would be playing the role of  Topsy, Mary’s cousin. Topsy did not appear in the original 1964 film, but was featured in the novel, Mary Poppins Comes Back, by P.L. Travers.

Streep, would join the previously confirmed cast of Emily Blunt in the role of the iconic nanny and Hamilton‘s own Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, the street lamplighter.

The Mary Poppins sequel would be an Into the Woods reunion of sorts, as Blunt and Streep were in the musical film (and would be singing in this film, too) as well as Into the Woods director and producers are currently attached to the project.
