‘Throwback Thursday’: Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow

THURSDAY is here everybody, and you know what that means? Friday is the next day up. Oh, and also… it’s time for another ‘Throwback Thursday’. I know it seems as though everyone has been talking about Pokemon Go for the past week or two, but it is just so much fun to talk about! I do not think I have ever seen a mobile game bring so many strangers together. Last night I was out strolling in Princeton, NJ with my boyfriend and a few friends and it was amazing how many people were out and about, running around and trying to catch these Pokemon.

One person would simply yell ‘Look! There is a Pikachu over here!’ and it was completely amazing to watch all of these people get up and rush over (no literally, I saw people running) to catch said Pokemon. I have been amazed at how random strangers will all just walk over to the same area and simply look over to the stranger who they just met sitting next to them and ask ‘did you catch anything good’? Think about it, prior to Pokemon Go, you would never see something like this happen. It is completely awesome!

Anyway, all of this talk and hype about Pokemon Go brought back so many memories of the very first Pokemon game I ever played… Pokemon Blue.

Red and Blue were a third-person viewed game, in which trainers would set out on their own quest and capture Pokemon. Trainers had the option to chose from Charmander, Squirtle or Bublasaur as their starter Pokemon. The game was originally released in Japan in 1996 with the titles ‘ed and Green it was later brought over to North America as Red and Blue. The goal of the games (just like the current games today) was to become the champion of the Pokémon League by defeating the eight Gym Leaders. You would then go on to the Pokemon league and take on the four toughest trainers that existed, the Elite Four. Another objective is to complete the Pokédex, an in-game encyclopedia, by obtaining the 150 available Pokémon.
