Netflix Orders New Season of ‘Making A Murderer’

Last December, the Netflix docuseries Making a Murderer took the world by storm!  The series took an inside look at the bizarre Avery-Dassey case in which Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, were charged with and convicted of murdering photographer, Teresa Halbach in 2005.  Avery and Dassey’s lawyers insist this was a wrongful conviction.  The series took a look at the evidence presented, possible corruption within the investigation and the structure of the trial itself, allowing viewers of the series to form their own opinions of Avery and Dassey’s guilt or innocence.

Netflix announced on Tuesday that the true crime series will be back for a second season.  According to a press release from Netflix, the forthcoming installments will delve back inside the story of Avery and Dassey, as their defense teams again challenge their convictions and life sentences.

The statement from Netflix read:

“The episodes will offer exclusive access to Avery’s new lawyer Kathleen Zellner and Dassey’s legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin, as well as intimate access to the families and characters close to the case.”

Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, the series’ creators, also said in the statement:

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold.”

Making a Murderer was recently nominated for 6 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.  While a release date for the new season is not yet known, we are super intrigued to see what new evidence this chapter of the real-life trial drama will bring to light.
