Throwback Thursday ‘The Iron Giant’
Happy Thursday, everyone! It’s time for yet another Throwback Thursday!! With all these animated movies about to come to life, I thought I would take us back to a sci-fi cartoon movie that certainly made an impact in the late 90’s.
The Iron Giant (produced by Warner Bros.) was released in 1999 and it wow’d audiences through its use of both computer and traditional animation. The film is based on the 1968 novel The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. The movie, set during The Cold War, is about a young boy named Hogarth Hughes who discovers a giant metallic robot who fell from space. Hogarth enlists the help of artist Dean McCoppin, as they fight to stop the military and a wicked man named Kent Mansley from finding and destroying the Giant.
The film starred cast members such as Eli Marienthal, Christopher McDonald, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr. and Vin Diesel.
The Iron Giant received tremendous praise from critics and audiences alike. The film was nominated for numerous awards, and wound up coming on top with nine Annie Awards (awards for excellence in Animation). The Iron Giant is now widely regarded as a modern animated classic.
In 2015, the film was remastered and was released in theaters for a special 2-night event.
