The production stars newcomer Ethan Slater who plays the Nickelodeon icon, SpongeBob.  In the play, SpongeBob is challenged with the task of saving his town from an impending volcanic eruption along with the help of his underwater friends, Patrick (Danny Skinner), Sandy (Lilli Cooper), Squidward (Gavin Lee), Mr. Krabs (Carlos Lopez), and Plankton (Nick Blaemire).

The SpongeBob Musical has had some serious heavy hitters contributing to the creation of the production.  With musical input from Aerosmith, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Cindy Lauper, Lady Antebellum, T.I. and even the late David Bowie how can this show not be anything but amazing!

The production is directed by Tina Landau (who is also a co-creator) and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, choreography by Christopher Gattelli and musical supervision by Tom Kitt.

The SpongeBob Musical will be playing at Chicago’s Oriental Theater from June 7th through July 10th before making its way to Broadway next season.  Check out the awesome photos of the live stage show from Entertainment Weekly below.
