‘Nashville’ In Talks For Renewal on CMT Network
It’s been almost a month since ABC announced the cancellation of the popular drama series, Nashville however, nowadays, “cancellation” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the death of a show. It’s quite common for shows to be cancelled and then picked up on another network (like Super Girl on the CW) or, even on streaming services like Netflix or Hulu.
In the time since the cancelation, Lionsgate has been actively searching for a new home for the show and, it seems they may have found the perfect place, CMT. This seems like a no brainer however, the deal has not yet been finalized. According to Entertainment Weekly, Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs has said previously that the original actors are “essential” to the show’s continuation. While stars such as Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton are still technically under contract with the show, it is not yet known if they would be on board for the network switch.
In addition to the casting, new showrunners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick were scheduled to take over the series in the 5th season on ABC and, it is being reported that they would likely remain as showrunners on CMT as well.
Season 4 of Nashville ended abruptly and with a massive cliffhanger which left fans reeling on social media. In the finale, Juliette Barnes’ (Hayden Panettiere) plane went missing while her child’s father (Jonathan Jackson) waited for her return.
Fans of the show created a #SaveNashville campaign that was trending on social media for days as well as a change.org petition to keep the show on air. The petition is still going and is up to 171,000 signatures so far (and you thought The Walking Dead fans were angry).
Only time will tell if the deal will be finalized but, it does bring about some hope for other fan favorite shows that have been cancelled recently.
