‘Throwback Thursday’: The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Movie

Hey everyone, it’s time for another Throwback Thursday!

Ever since Lionsgate announced that they would be releasing up to seven new Power Rangers movies, social media has been trending with all sorts of ‘Power Ranger’ topics. With all of these trends…trending… I became nostalgic and thought back to the old Power Rangers. The original Power Rangers, as a matter of fact. More specifically, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Movie. I remember my little brother being all sorts of hype about this movie, that I wound up watching it with him five times in two days. I’m not kidding. It seriously happened.

The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Movie debuted in theaters on June 30, 1995 and grossed approximately $66 million worldwide. Compared to today’s box office records, that really doesn’t add up to much, but at the time… it was pretty decent.

It starred the cast of actors that were in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series: Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, and David Yost.

After a construction crew accidentally cracks open a gigantic egg that has imprisoned evil Ivan Ooze for centuries, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers prepare to face their most formidable foe yet.

Ohhhh Ivan Ooze…..you slimy creep, you…..

When Ivan Ooze destroyed the Power Rangers Command Center, the Power Rangers lost their powers. The Power Rangers then went on a quest to discover a way to regain their powers on a planet called Phaedos. There they met Dulcea, Master Warrior of Phaedos. Dulcea gave the Power Rangers new powers based on specific animals: the Ape (Red Ranger), The Frog (Black Ranger), The Wolf (Blue Ranger), The Bear (Yellow Ranger), The Crane (Pink Ranger), and The Falcon (White Ranger). They battled the four gatekeepers on their way to the planet’s templar, where the Great Power was bestowed upon them, allowing them once more, morph into the Power Rangers.

I still get pumped up by this theme song when I hear it playing.
