‘Fruit Ninja’ Movie in the works

I remember back when ‘Fruit Ninja’ had become extremely popular, and anyone with a smart phone or an iPod had the game downloaded. There would be times when I was sitting in the dentist office, or at an airport, and there had to be at least ten people around me playing the game. I’m not going to lie, it was pretty addicting… and it made time fly by. Movies based on video game franchises are starting to pop up more and more; the Assassin’s Creed , Angry Birds and World of Warcraft movie are the most recent game-based films to debut.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vinson Films and Halfbrick Studios are teaming up to bring the Fruit Ninja film to life. Tripp Vinson will produce the project, and has enlisted writers J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani. The duo previously worked on How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack, as well as the Black List episode Kamikaze Love. Sam White and Tara Farney will be Executive Producing the film.

The film is going to be a live-action family comedy, but no other plot points are known. For those unfamiliar with the game, Fruit Ninja has players swiping across their mobile phones, tablets, and even on larger screens at places such as Dave and Busters and Chuck e Cheese..Your goal is ‘slice’ as much fruit as possible without hitting the bombs that are randomly tossed into the mix,.

Not a hundred percent sure as to how they are going to turn this mobile game, which has had over 1 billion downloads, into a film buuuut it definitely has peaked my interest. What can I say, I’m a nerd. And to quote our very own, Bailey Hyneman ‘Keep it nerdy, my friends’! 🙂

There have been no announcements in regards to a release date or production date, but we will keep you updated on this ‘fruitful’ news. (see what I did there?) 😉
