‘Nintendo’ considering introducing their characters to the Movie Universe

For a few years now, Nintendo has been contemplating and considering their stance on movie adaptations of their video game characters.

In an interview with Asahi News (via Kotaku), Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima revealed the company is hoping to self-finance their own animated movies based on their characters, following the sale of their stake in the Seattle Mariners baseball team.

Check some snippets of the interview below:
Asahi News: “So, will you do another live-action movie?”

Kimishima: “We’ve done that before, so probably not a live-action one.”

Asahi News: “Will it be something like Disney or Pixar, then?”

Kimishima: “Because we have IPs, we’re thinking we could also do something like that. It is something to keep in mind as we make all this concrete.”

Asahi News: “Will you announce the work sometime this year?”

Kimishima: “I cannot definitely say this year, and we’re currently in talks. If funds flow in this year, I’m saying I’d like to put that money to use, and I’m not saying I’d like to use it five years in the future. I want to implement that before then.”

Asahi News: “The movie is going be something like Super Mario or The Legend of Zelda?”

Kimishima: “I want to use an IP that is popular with everyone. But, I’m not saying it’s going to be Super Mario, I’m only saying we’ll put out something that everyone knows very well.”
