‘Wolverine 3’ filming has begun, with confirmed R-Rating

X-Men film franchise producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that Wolverine 3 has officially begun filming.

The film will be Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Wolverine, and Kinberg promises this movie will stand out from previous installments in the series.

“It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies,” Kinberg tells Collider.

Earlier this year we had heard rumors that 20th Century Fox was considering makingWolverine 3 rated R, which Kinberg has confirmed. We also heard rumors that Patrick Stewart would be returning in this futuristic X-men movie.

Kinberg had this to say in regards to both:

“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that,” Kinberg said. “I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

This film’s R rating may be viewed as a response to Deadpool’s massive success earlier this year, but Hugh Jackman himself has been openly campaigning for an R-rated Wolverine film for years.

In 2011, he told MTV:

“If there’s ever going to be a superhero that is going to be R-rated, it’s going to be Wolverine.”

I’m extremely excited to see what Hugh Jackman brings to the screen. I would also love to see Patrick Stewart return to the x-men franchise, however, it looks like we will have to wait until more details about the film are released to find out for sure if our favorite professor will be returning.

Regardless, the news that filming is finally, officially underway is still extremely exciting!

Wolverine 3 is set to arrive in theaters on March 3, 2017.
