National Superhero Day was created in 1995 by Marvel Comics who teamed with Powercapes.com (now Superflykids.com) to “encourage people nationwide to be heroes in their home community.” Marvel interns donned the custom-made capes to go out in public and learn what superhero people would be if they had superpowers.
The day is now celebrated with the intent of recognizing those who risk their lives every day to keep us safe. Some charities actually use the day to visit children’s hospitals dressed as superheroes, with capes for the kids! How cool is that?
