Batman and Superman: Favorite Comic Book Moments

In one short day the early showings of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will open in theaters, in honor of that I am going to share some of my favorite Batman Superman moments in comics. Some are fights, some show the respect they have for one another, and others show the love they have for each other. I love comics and read as many as I can though I am no expert, this is just a list of some of my favorite moments. If I missed any of your favorites let me know!

1. The Dark Knight Returns

I would feel wrong if I didn’t include this fight. The Dark Knight Returns is one of the first comics I read when I decided to get into comics, along with Batman Year One. It is an intense dark gritty look at what an old retired Batman would look like if he came out of retirement and had to fight Superman. After reading this I was not overly sold on Superman for several years. What will always stick out about this comic though of course is the fight. I will never forget 2013 SDCC when Zack Snyder read those iconic lines to announce the Batman v Superman movie.

“I want you to remember Clark, in all the years to come, in your most private moments, I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.

Now Batman really didn’t beat Clark by himself nor did he beat him, he faked a heart attack to end the fight lol. Robin and the one armed Green Arrow helped quiet a bit, but that is all semantics!

2. Injustice year 3

I am not really sure I should count this because it is a what coulda happened on an alternate earth, but I love the panels and it shows how much the two are willing to do for each other. If you are not familiar with the Injustice world it starts with The Joker tricking Superman into killing Louis and in turn their unborn child. The series follows what would happen to the world if Superman lost it for real! In this what could have been issue The Justice League is able to save Louis, and Batman hauls Joker into prison, on the drive back Joker tells Bats that it was fun and he will have to terrorize his friends again. Batman knowing Joker isn’t kidding decided in an instant that he has to die. While driving he reaches over and snaps Joker’s neck, he arrives at the police station with the cowl off and turns himself in for murder. My favorite part is Superman coming to the prison to visit Bruce. Superman is there to tell him about the birth of his child and Superman guesses why he finally killed the Joker. He is so blown away that Bruce would break his one rule to keep Clark’s family safe. Superman walks through a wall to hug Bruce and offers to bust him out. The Batman Superman relationship in Injustice just breaks my heart so maybe that’s why these panels hold such a special place in my heart. I just needed a good feel good comic!

3. Batman: Hush

Hush is one of my favorite Batman comics. It might be because I am a mad BatCat shipper, but I think that is irrelevant! The Batman Superman fight in the comic is one of my favorites. Poison Ivy has Superman under her spell, and she is insisting that Superman kill the Bat! Most times I have seen them fight they are both very aware they are beating the crap out of each other, Superman is not in this case. To see Bruce’s prospective on Superman and himself during this fight is why its my favorite.

“If Clark wanted to, he could use his super speed and squish me into the cement. But I know how he thinks. Even more than the Kryptonite, He’s got one big weakness. Deep down, Clark’s essentially a good person…and deep down, I’m not.”

With the help of the Kryptonite ring and Catwoman putting Louis in danger they get Clark to snap out of his Ivy induced haze!

4.
Batman/Superman #27

As the big Batman fan that I am I tend to enjoy things more from the Caped Crusaders point of view rather than the Man of Steel, but the boy scout as recently really grown on me! In Batman/Superman #27 Clark has a flash back to him and Bruce fighting Supremacists. They are fighting together and getting to see how Superman feels about Bats makes my heart happy!

“But in the end, all that really matters…is that we’ll never give uppause. lemme catch mah breathe.and we’ll never give up on each other.”

5. Batman/Superman Vol 1: Cross

World This comic is confusing to say the least, but so worth reading a few times. Seeing Alternate Batman and Superman, and  young Batman and Superman its amazing. I really enjoy the first fight between young Batman and Superman. Bruce, the ever arrogant, assumes fighting Superman is going to be a non issue. Batman quickly realizes that it isn’t going to be so easy…and he isn’t going to beat him. Seeing Batman humbled every once in a while is good for him, and me!Between the fun story line and the amazing art this is always on my list of things fans should pickup!

6. Batman/Superman: Public Enemies

You know the world is in the pooper when Lex Luthor is president. When president Luthor puts a 1 billion dollar bounty on Batman’s and Superman’s heads all sorts of craziness happens. This story is always a favorite of mine, the two have to rely on each other as everyone else is against them. They have several touching moments, some great fights, but my favorite is the humor. Superman has a way of laughing in the face of the Dark Knights mood and brood, even when his own life is on the line.

My list is not in any order, just some of my favorite moments! They fight, they hug, they save the gosh darn world often! We know with Justice League looming around the corner that Batman and Superman will have to put their beef some what to the side to deal with bigger foes. My best hope is that Wonder Woman shows up and slaps them both in the head!

Batman V Superman…Wonder Woman wins!!
