DC Releases New ‘Suicide Squad’ Trailer

DC Releases New Suicide Squad Trailer

DC and Warner Bros. have released the second trailer for the highly- anticipated crazyfest that is Suicide Squad.

In this trailer, we get to see more of who makes up Task Force X, with scenes of them in prison before answering the call of orchestrator Amanda Waller. There are also noticeable moments from before Harley Quinn was Harley Quinn, so I believe that this movie will act as a partial origin story for a bunch of our villains.

Waller is organizing a group of villains to go on missions and save the world. These missions are usually just about impossible and that’s why criminals are used. If they die, no one really cares. If they mess up, the organization can just blame the villains. It’s a win-win situation. This is all made possible by bombs implanted in the villains that Waller can detonate at any moment. In exchange for going on these suicide missions, time is taken off their prison sentence.

We don’t yet have details on what their mission actually is. I have pieced together a couple of clues, but the most substantial hint comes from an article from Empire where actress Cara Delevingne talks about how her character (Enchantress) has been trapped for a really long time and is finally free. This may refer to time in Belle Reve, but I believe that she is the focus of Task Force X’s mission. She is a powerful being, and who doesn’t love power? Waller sure does. She may need Enchantress for some power play, or, she could be trying to intercept her before someone else. The Joker, perhaps?

Joker is shown a lot of times throughout the trailer and it is unclear what role he plays. I think that the majority of his scenes are in flashbacks. As I mentioned earlier, there is evidence that we will see the birth of Harley Quinn. I believe that they are going to draw inspiration from her New 52 comic origin in which she was thrown into a vat of acid in order to complete her transformation from psychiatrist to psycho. Do I think that the Joker is the main villain of the film? No. If Enchantress is a person of interest for her power, that wouldn’t be something the Joker is interested in. He’s all about chaos and does quite well on his own.

I am excited for this movie and really liked this new trailer. I can’t wait to see the first big screen appearances of some of my favorite villains, like Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and Harley. Honestly, I was most worried about Harley. She is such an iconic character and it was hard to imagine who would embody such a complex villain. Margot Robbie nails it. All we’ve seen is probably a total of about 5 minutes worth of the film, but she has thus far totally captured Harley. She is the reason I am currently most excited for the movie.

Suicide Squad lands in theaters August 5, 2016.
