‘Teen Wolf’ Recap ‘Amplification’

Teen Wolf Recap ‘Amplification’

Wow.

Team Wolf is breaking into Eichen House to save Lydia. Deaton has photos of some of the experiments conducted by Dr. Valack and they are pretty gruesome. He is trying to amplify their abilities, but has thus far only managed to have the abilities consume and kill them. Valack is going to do it to Lydia that night and it will not only kill her, but cause her to scream and kill everyone around her.

This episode started right in the thick of a police pursuit of the Beast, who is headed for the hospital. Scott, Stiles, and Sheriff Stilinski come across Parrish after he faces off against the Beast in his Hellhound state. Unfortunately, we don’t actually get to witness the fight. Scott and Stiles follow the Beast’s bloody tracks that suddenly change into shoe prints.

Theo offers his help to getting Lydia out, and thank goodness Scott ignores him. This however leads to Theo’s team also raiding Eichen and disrupting Scott’s plan. Then everything falls apart and Eichen goes on lockdown.

There was a lot that worked really well in this episode. We have Team Wolf breaking into Eichen, but Theo’s assault is also weaved into that. We saw the full raid during the season 5B opener and I thought it was brilliant that Team Wolf was there too, but that was kept from the audience. It made the whole thing really suspenseful and I was totally engaged once they entered Eichen.

Another thing that really worked this week was the comedy. The timing of the jokes was perfect and it reminded me of the flair the show had in seasons past. It was a welcome relief from all the really bad that has been going on. I don’t think the next episode will have comedic moments since Eichen is locked down with Team Wolf, Team Theo, and Valack all inside together.

Also, did Valack have a Dread Doctor helmet? He pulled out something strikingly similar to one in order to use on Lydia. The music even made the clickey sound like when the Doctors are around so I think it was. Does that mean Valack is one of them? He is certainly creepy.

We get an answer as to the claws Theo got from the Dessert Wolf. They can apparently be attached to someone’s existing claws and used to siphon the abilities of the Beast, which Theo intends to do. Deucalion warns Hayden that if Theo does this, he will die. The claws weren’t designed for him. His body will reject the new tissue and it will kill him. I’m over here hoping that Hayden will just let that happen because I am tired of Theo, but we’ll see. The big question though is who did the Dread Doctors make the claws for?

This episode leaves off on a cliffhanger so we have to wait until next week to find out what happens inside a locked down Eichen.
