‘The Flash’ Season Two Premiere ‘The Man Who Saved Central City’

The Flash Recap ‘The Man Who Saved Central City’

Season two kicks off six months after the events of the season one finale.

Everyone seems to have gone their separate ways and from Barry’s monologue, we learn that he thinks it’s better that he works on his own. No one else will get hurt. It is then revealed through a flashback that Barry was not in fact the man who saved Central City, it was Firestorm. Ronnie Raymond and Dr. Stein flew into the heart of the wormhole once they realized that Barry wasn’t going to be able to close it on his own. They separate and cause an explosion that closes the wormhole. Barry snags Stein as he falls out of the sky, but Ronnie is nowhere to be seen (Poor Caitlin).

The villain of the week is Atom Smasher, a metahuman that sucks up radiation to increase his size and gain incredible strength. The thing is, he looks like a man that was found dead a couple of days prior. Barry is at first reluctant to get any help from Cisco, Joe, Iris, and Stein, thinking he can take out Atom Smasher on his own, but almost dies in the process. Thanks to
Stein’s genius, Barry’s life is saved. After a very heartfelt conversation with Joe that leaves the viewers all teary-eyed, Barry lets them back in.

Barry first goes to Caitlin and apologizes for Ronnie. And then after another
tear- jerker conversation, Caitlin and Barry watch a video left for Barry by the
late Harrison Wells — a living will. Wells says that he is going to give Barry the thing he wants most,
even though Barry will never truly be happy. He then confesses to killing Nora Allen. Barry’s dad is a free man!

Now with the team all back together, Barry faces off with the Atom Smasher. After taking him down, Atom Smasher tells Barry that someone named Zoom promised to take him home if he kills Flash. Looks like we have our main season villain. The end of the episode has Barry getting the suit that they saw the Flash wearing in the future with a white backdrop to the lightning bolt. And then suddenly a man appears, calling Barry by name and saying that their world is in danger. This man is Jay Garrick, who was teased at in the season one finale.

A lot took place in the season two premier. It was an emotionally charged episode as we found Barry blaming himself for both Eddie and Ronnie’s deaths. I’m expecting this to play out as we move further into the season. Barry has always been about protecting his friends, but now that drive is going to be greater. He will maybe get a little more reckless if someone he cares about in danger. As for Ronnie, I don’t think he is really dead. I think he got sucked into the other side of the wormhole.

The appearance of Jay Garrick all but confirms the introducing of Earth-2 and the DC Multiverse. For those of you that don’t know, Jay is the first Flash (silver age of comics Flash) and in the New 52 reboot of the comics, he is the Flash of Earth-2. Atom Smasher talks about “going home” so perhaps he is also from the alternate timeline. The inclusion of the multiverse opens up a lot of opportunities for the season and I am really excited to see what is going to happen. Is it just me or is anyone else hoping that Earth-2 Oliver Queen will make an appearance? Maybe just me.

The next episode is titled “Flash of Two Worlds” so we will learn more about Jay Garrick and Earth-2 then.
