13 Reasons Why fans are having a good week! After nearly a year of waiting, Netflix finally released season three’s trailer (along with with a shocking twist) and upcoming premiere date. That’s not all though. The streaming giant also renewed the controversial series for a fourth and final season!
After watching the trailer, it’s clear that long gone are the days of “welcome to your tape”. Now, the question is “who killed Bryce Walker?” That’s right. Season three will find the despised serial rapist murdered with a big whodunnit storyline. It will also be the first season to not feature Katherine Langford, who announced last year that season 2 would be her last playing Hannah Baker.
According to Variety, “season 4 is currently in production and will feature the core cast’s graduation from Liberty High”. While the high school drama has certainly been a hit for Netflix, it hasn’t come smoothly. The show continues to face ample controversy around its strong subject matter including bullying, suicide, drugs, gun violence, and sexual assault. Mental health professionals heavily scrutinized seasons one and two, citing the show’s negative influence on younger viewers. Netflix took cautious and preemptive measures heading into season 2 with trigger warnings, viewing guides, and resources for those tuning in. A graphic suicide scene was also recently removed from season 1 on the streamer. However,13 Reasons Why has sparked important conversations and portrays the struggles of high school in a very honest way. So, it’s no surprise that Netflix chose to continue the story for one more season.
In the meantime, season three will drop on Netflix on August 23rd. You can watch the first teaser trailer below!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
