Over the years, we have all seen our fair share of the classic horror and slasher films. In those films there are always two things that are guaranteed. First, there is a ‘bad guy’ with some sort of a backstory. Was he bullied his entire life due to his shortcoming and deformities? Was she locked away in her mothers closet her entire life? Did they survive a traumatic car crash that left them in a scarred state of mind?
All of these things are just a few of the elements that have made up some of the iconic slashers and horror ‘villains’ that we have been watching on the screens for years. The second thing that comes along in a horror movie, is a ‘hero’ who comes in and rises to fight the wicked and the bad. They are usually the person you least expect to muster up the courage and fight the good fight. All of these things, to most people, are just fictional tales. However… what if there was someone out there, who believed that these storylines… that these tales should be real? What if the psychopaths are really out there, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to play out their own real-life horror movie?
All that being said, there is one iconic horror franchise that, due to a complicated law suit, has been fighting for a new flick over the past few years – Friday the 13th. Despite this, fans of the series have been remaining passionate and loyal. Not only have their been several fan films over the years (Never Hike Alone, Voorhees, Vengeance, and His Name was Jason), there is a new film coming out that you can all look forward to, one that even reunites some of your favorite Friday the 13th cast members – and that is Voorhees Films’ project 13 Fanboy.
13 Fanboy is a horror thriller that is bringing some of your favorite Friday the 13th alumni back to the big screen in a brand new horror series about a crazed fan, who takes his love for the iconic series a little too far and starts targeting the real-life women from the franchise to kill them like they were killed in the Friday films. Another thing that is pretty cool is that all the kills will be practical effects, as a nod to the classic slasher films.
The films campaign has exceeded $60K on Indiegogo, and has some pretty incredible perks that go along with it. Including a ’13 Voorhees’ package, which not only gives the backer an Executive Producer Credit – but also invites the backer to the film set, the after party and a limo ride to the film premiere.
The film has some pretty incredible almuni in the cast, including: C.J. Graham, Thom Matthews, Kane Hodder, Ron Sloan, Deborah Voorhees, Tracie Savage, Jennifer Banko and Judie Aronson.
I have known Deborah Voorhees for about two years now, and I can say first hand that she absolutely is a woman that not only cares deeply for the series – but for all of the fans as well. Two years ago, I asked Deborah in my first Fan Fest Interview with her if she had any words of wisdom for aspiring filmmakers, actors and directors. Her response was: “Yes, I do. It’s probably the most important thing that they will ever hear. Don’t Wait to be hired, go out and make your own art!”
So, I give the loudest applause to Deborah for going out there and making some art of her very own! Deborah is extremely passionate about the world of horror, and I’m looking forward to seeing 13 Fanboy in full force.
