‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Claps Back at Body Shamers Over MTV Movie & TV Awards Latex Dress

This Is Us actress Chrissy Metz has always promoted positivity, particularly when it comes to body image.  She strives to be a positive role model for women of all shapes and sizes and promotes being comfortable in your own skin.  Her attitude and confidence is a breath of fresh air and is truly inspiring for women everywhere so, when someone tries to stomp on her positivity, she’s not afraid to defend herself and stomp right back.

Metz attended the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday night and looked absolutely stunning while doing so.  She wore a deep-red, knee-length latex dress with adorable ruffled sleeves, comfy but cute flats and just a hint of bling by adding shimmery, dangling earrings.  Her whole look was fabulous and she totally rocked it!

Of course, living in the age of internet and social media, the actress received some negative comments regarding her outfit and, most likely her body type.  But Metz didn’t let that negativity ruin her rockstar night at the awards.  The 36-year-old star used the platform of Twitter to send an empowering and inspiring message to any haters that had crossed her path: “For the record, I wear what I want, when I want. News flash it’s MY body. #thankstho.”

Metz has always been open about her struggle with body-shaming and with society’s perception of what beauty is supposed to look like.  She recently spoke to Marie Claire about the importance of standing up for body diversity and how beauty doesn’t necessarily equal thin and thin doesn’t alway equal happy:

“Size doesn’t equate to beauty.  I don’t understand why that’s a thing. Well, I do, because the media has told us thin is beautiful. But is it? Because I think people are miserable not eating and smoking cigarettes.  I’ve had roommates who were thin girls and constantly working out and trying to stay under a certain size. Even the average girl looks 10 pounds heavier on the screen.”

Body-shaming has become a frequent issue which all types of people (not just celebrities) and all different body types, face every day.  We applaud Chrissy Metz and the constant positivity she is putting out to the world!  You go, Chrissy!
