‘The Flash’ Recap ‘Dead or Alive’

The Flash Recap ‘Dead or Alive’

A bounty hunter by the name of Gypsy (who has the same powers as Cisco) has come for H.R. He has been broadcasting his tell-all inter-dimensional travel book throughout the multiverse and gave away his location. On Earth-19, where he is from, traveling through the multiverse is illegal, so Gypsy has been sent to retrieve him. Team Flash isn’t going to let him go and Cisco challenges her to trial by combat. Winner gets to H.R. Since he requested the trial though, he has to be the one to fight.

Cisco has never really had a hand on his powers, so Team Flash spends the episode training him up. New to the team is Julian and he remains as snarky and pessimistic as ever. He does, however, end up finding Gypsy’s weakness. Barry and H.R. think there might be a chance Cisco will fail, so they try and catch Gypsy unaware. It doesn’t work and almost blows the entire deal. Cisco gets upset with Barry because it makes it feel like nobody believes in him.

Meanwhile, Iris and Wally team up to take down a high-profile arms dealer. Iris puts herself in danger in order to get the story. She is fearless in the face of the gun aimed at her because she knows this isn’t how she dies. Wally interferes. When the police arrive, Joe isn’t happy that the two took matters into their own hands. Wally drops the information that Iris was almost shot, which wasn’t the best thing to tell Joe, who still doesn’t know about the future. Barry pulls Iris aside and asks why she did that. Iris admits that she isn’t afraid to die, she is afraid of dying without leaving her mark on the world.

The trial arrives and Cisco appears in his Vibe costume (yes!). He and Gypsy battle it out, traveling to different worlds. She is much better than him, and, feeling confident, tells him that his fear is holding him back. They both resonate at the same frequency and she can sense just how powerful he really is. She uses her signature move to open a breach and reappear behind her target, and that is exactly what Team Flash is hoping for. As she reappears, she is off-balance and Cisco takes the opportunity to blast her. She goes down and he is victorious. H.R. gets to stay. But he will never be able to return to Earth-19 because Gypsy will tell everyone that she killed him.

Team Flash ran the numbers, trying to calculate what speed Barry would need to travel at in order to save Iris from Savitar. Things are looking grim, but at the end of the episode, Barry makes a decision. He won’t be the one to save Iris, Wally will. He is getting faster, and started out faster than Barry was when he first got his powers. With the two of them together, they may be able to save her.

I hope that Cisco continues to hone his powers. He would be a valuable asset to Barry and Wally. We got to see some more of the extent of his powers through Gypsy. She was able to stop Wally moving. He has only scratched the surface of what he can do.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Untouchable.’
