Marvel and Netflix Pull ‘The Punisher’ Panel from New York Comic Con

New York Comic Con has officially taken over the pop culture world and fans of some of the biggest films and television are currently preparing for what’s expected to be an incredible weekend. Some fans have exact plans mapped out for every moment of their weekend while others take a more relaxed approach – however – nearly everyone was expecting something big in terms of The Punisher.

Would we get behind the scenes info about the series? Would there be a new trailer? Would we finally get that official release date? There’s nothing like a panel with Jon Bernthal, and we were excited to hear his take on playing Castle in the Netflix series.

However, Marvel and Netflix decided to pull it in the wake of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas. The series, while incredible, does revolve around a mission of revenge with added military-grade weapons. Frank Castle had his life stolen from him, in the form of those he loved most, and he wants nothing more than to stop evil. That fight just seems heavy in these moments.

In a joint statement, Netflix and Marvel had this to say about their decision.

We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’ to participate in New York Comic-Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.’

Fans had certainly been looking forward to the panel for The Punisher, as every teaser for the series has been just that…a tease. However, there will always be an open window of opportunity for the cast and crew, specifically Jon Bernthal, to talk about the series and what went into making it the success it’s bound to be.

The Punisher is set to debut on Netflix anytime now.
