Katherine Waterston Gives Update on ‘Alien: Covenant’ Sequel

Nearly a year after its release, fans of Alien: Covenant are still awaiting news on a possible sequel. But, following a disappointing run at the box office, the Alien franchise seems to be in an uncertain place.

Director Ridley Scott has spoken numerous times about ideas on how to move the franchise forward after Covenant ended with a cliff-hanger involving Michael Fassbender’s menacing character, David.

In previous interviews Scott has revealed plans to replace the Xenomorph with A.I’s, insisting that the creature has lost its ability to scare audiences.

During a roundtable conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott said: “I think the beast has almost run out, personally. You’ve got to come in with something else. You’ve got to replace that. And so I was right, I was ahead of the game.”

Covenant lead star Katherine Waterston, whilst promoting her upcoming film State Like Sleep at the Tribeca Film Festival last week, revealed some disappointing news regarding a second film.

“I have no idea. I always feel like as though the actors are the last to know, “the Fantastic Beasts actress told the Metro. “But I also feel as though I could have a great deal to do in that film, or just be rolled out in a body bag.”

“I heard some rumours about where it might go a long time ago that were really interesting to me and my character,” she said discussing a potential sequel. “But I haven’t heard anything in ages.”
