Jon Bernthal Channels Real Life Circumstances to Play The Punisher

When you take on a role as massive as that of The Punisher, you have to be able to give it your all. In good times and in bad, when you’re exhausted or when you’re well rested, and when you’re feeling motivated and even when you’re not.

Frank Castle is an icon of a character and as we embark on the upcoming Netflix series starting Jon Bernthal, we’re looking at what it takes to bring that character to life in a new way.

So what does Jon Bernthal channel to become the Punisher? Aspects of his own life, of course, and after hearing that we totally applaud his dedication to the character even more. A role like that of Castle is a strong and impactful one, the character is almost historic in pop culture. He lost the people he loved most and, in a mission for revenge, tries to rid the world of criminals.

So, maybe his methods aren’t exactly…legal, but he’s the Punisher for a reason, and it’s not because he’s out there singing kumbaya.

To get into that state of mind, Jon sort of puts himself in that position, at least to a degree. He thinks of his own family and who wouldn’t go to any lengths necessary to protect those they love?

He went on to enforce that sentiment by saying that you have to give it your all when it comes to acting. He says he was a bit of a messed up kid but he found his career and it saved him. Now he has a family he loves and a job he loves and a life he loves…so he’s got no choice but to pour himself into what makes it all happen.

He encourages everyone else to do the same, to give it their all, in whatever way that works for them.

We are grateful that Jon found acting and that he has so much good in his life that it pushes him to keep going, and we can’t wait to see him as The Punisher in the new Netflix series coming on a November 17th.
