Jodie Whittaker Literally (and Metaphorically) Shatters the Glass Ceiling in New ‘Doctor Who’ Promo

“It’s about time!”

New Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker is ready to make history as the series’ first female Time Lord and there is nothing that’s going to hold her back. That has never been more apparent than it is in the newest teaser for the upcoming 11th season of the series.

In a brilliant display of marketing, the newest teaser features Whittaker’s 13th Doctor standing in a large room with a high and intricate stained-glass ceiling. While Macklemore’s Glorious plays in the background, Whittaker looks up towards the sky causing the ceiling to shatter into a million pieces. She then turns to the camera and says, “Whoops.”

The metaphor is obvious, and we love it! Check out the newest teaser below.

Ahead of the season premiere, BBC American will be hosting The 13 Days of Doctor Who marathon featuring every single episode from the modern-era series. The event concludes with the season 11 premiere on October 7th.

The next season of Doctor Who will begin a brand new chapter in the series. From new showrunner Chris Chibnal, in addition to the new doctor (Whittaker), the upcoming season introduces new friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh). Check out the trailer for the upcoming 11th series HERE.

Though Whittaker’s casting has drawn controversy, her predecessor, Peter Capaldi, had nothing but high praise for her during last year’s New York Comic Con. He assured fans, “She’s amazing.  I’ve seen what she’s done, and you’re in good hands.”

Additionally, Whittaker herself has expressed her excitement to join the Whovian universe. She said, “I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey – with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet. It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”

We can’t wait to see what amazing adventures the new Doctor will encounter! Jodie Whittaker makes her official debut on Sunday, October 7th on BBC.
