‘DuckTales’ Un-Plucked – Episode #07: “The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!”

If there ever was an episode that could be considered “Filler” in Ducktales, it was this week’s episode “The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks”. Now to be fair, I originally thought the same about “The Beagle Birthday Massacre!” before Lena revealed her connection to Magica De Spell. Though this episode had no poignant end scene. If anything, this episode might have a closer connection to the show’s opening as we see the title character Mark Beaks grouped in with the other series villains.

Could Mark Beaks be a series-specific villain? What else did this episode bring us? Filler or not, it was certainly enjoyable. So as always, it’s time to pull up your DVR or check out the link below to watch it on Disney XD, and take a Closer Look at Ducktales (2017) Episode 07, “The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks!”

Mark Beaks – The Evilest Villain Yet?

He might not be trying to steal Scrooge’s luck, Scrooge’s Number One Dime or even kill him; but there is something about Mark Beaks that comes across as particularly villainous. Perhaps it’s the fact that unlike most of Duckberg’s other villains, Mark Beaks is the one that’d most seamlessly fit into the real world. Beaks might not be smart enough to have invented anything, but he’s smart enough to play the people of Duckberg and beyond into investing in a fake product and then devising a way to pass blame. Of all of Scrooge’s nemeses thus far, Beaks is certainly the most sociopathic – and I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him.

Perhaps Beaks pops back up when Gizmoduck is introduced or maybe he continues to ponder new ways to swindle people, but just because Beaks is a new villain doesn’t mean he has to be a one off. He’s fun, he’s weird and he’s frighteningly cunning despite that outwardly friendly appearance. And again, considering we see him in the opening credits, I’m sure he’ll be back…. Unless Glomgold has something to say about it.

Frenemies For Life – Scrooge Vs Glomgold Part 2

It’s been a while since we’ve seen ole Flinty aka Flintheart Glomgold aka the 2nd Richest Duck in Duckberg aka Scrooge’s Most Famous Nemesis. He might not be the most powerful or dangerous of Scrooge’s enemies, but he’s the most consistent. And this episode starts to add to Flinty and Scrooge’s characters by switching up their relationship. Yes, they hate each other, but they also see each other every day. Dare I say it, these two actually enjoy their rivalry. Well, maybe Scrooge does at least. From seeing who’s richer to having a “vision-based battle of wills”, these two have a routine and it was fun to see them somewhat try to work together this episode. Enemies coming together to fight a bigger evil is always a fun story, and this part of the episode was particularly enjoyable due to Glomgold’s over the top presentation and plots.

Things That “Quacked” Us Up – Easter Eggs, Quotes & More:

  • Maybe it’s the meta-humor or maybe it’s my generation, but I laughed WAY too hard at Beaks final message was #YOLO
  • The next time something amazing happens to me, I’m going to quote Huey and say “Achieve Dream, Check!” – and if I’m lucky someone will get the reference!
  • Judging by that final scene, looks like Glomgold is moving ahead with the plane – OR will he end up making up a new one with Beaks to get Scrooge and his nephews?
  • Favorite Quotes
    • “I could be a bigger deal than Beaks in 3 years tops….. *breaks suit of armor* I’ll pay for that in 3 years, I’m very sorry” (Dewey)
    • “He talks the way I wanna live!” (Dewey)
    • “I’ve got a GREAT shark guy” (Glomgold)
    • “Menacing man, small children… prepare yourself” (Beaks)
