Dr. Shaun Murphy Faces Major Fallout from His Past Mistakes in ‘The Good Doctor’ Season 2 Trailer

The excitement surrounding The Good Doctor‘s return on ABC is at an all-time high now that we have less than a month to go before the season two premieres. On Thursday, however, ABC cranked up the excitement even higher when the network dropped the first trailer featuring new footage from the show’s second season.

Season two will pick up right where the first season left off with Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) in a tough spot at work. Shaun is at risk of losing his job after making a major mistake during a surgical procedure. He was distracted while operating after finding out that his mentor and best friend Dr. Aaron Glassman (played by Richard Schiff) is dying from a rare form of cancer. At the end of season one, both Shaun and Dr. Glassman walked into Dr. Andrews’s (played by Hill Harper) office to face their professional fate.

When season two begins, Shaun is certainly feeling the ramifications of his major error while still struggling to come to terms with Dr. Glassman’s diagnosis. The first look at season two is touching, emotional, gripping and, well, just make sure you have some tissues handy.

In addition to Highmore, Schiff, and Harper, The Good Doctor also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Paige Spara, Will Yun Lee, Fiona Gubelmann and Christina Chang. Fans will also notice that Chuku Modu (who plays Dr. Jared Kalu) is featured in the season two first look despite reports that he was leaving the series. While that might still be the path his character ultimately takes, at least it looks like fans will get closure when it comes to his storyline.

Also joining the cast this upcoming season is House star, Lisa Edelstein. Edelstein will have a recurring role as Dr. Blaize, a recently suspended expert oncologist who returns to St. Bonaventure at Dr. Glassman’s request in order to help with his cancer treatments, so perhaps there is hope on the horizon in season two.

The series is created by David Shore who also serves executive producer along with Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee.

The Good Doctor returns to ABC on Monday, September 24th! You can catch up or rewatch the first season right now on Hulu!
