David Letterman Makes His Return to Television on Netflix

He’s back!  Netflix announced today that David Letterman will be making his return to the small screen via the streaming service in an upcoming brand new series.  The series is not yet named but is set for a six one-hour long episode run and will combine Letterman’s love for an in-depth conversation with interesting people as well as those hilarious in-the-field segments which helped set him apart from the other late night shows.

Letterman was king of late night television for 33 years, hosted 6028 episodes of  Late Night (NBC) and The Late Show (CBS), and holds the record for being the longest running late night broadcaster in American history!  Letterman announced his departure from The Late Show in 2014 and his final episode aired on May 20, 2015.

In a statement released by Netflix on Tuesday, Letterman expressed his excitement for this new venture:

“I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely.”

Chief Content Officer at Netflix, Ted Sarandos, echoed Letterman’s excitement and spoke about working with the late night television legend:

“Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together.  David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can’t wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk and interviewing the people he finds most interesting. We’ll have to see if he keeps the beard.”

This seems like a match made in heaven!  Letterman unleashed!  We can’t wait to find out more details about the upcoming series as they develop.

David Letterman’s Netflix series is set to premiere in 2018.
