‘Crank Yankers’ Revived by Comedy Central, Original Creators Return
Crank Yankers, last seen on the air back in 2007, has been revived by Comedy Central and will feature the return of the show’s original co-creators Adam Carolla and Daniel Kellison as Executive Producers alongside Jimmy Kimmel and Jonathan Kimmel as Showrunners.
In case we’re dating ourselves here, I’ll explain the premise of the show. Adam Carolla and others would perform crank-calls to various businesses and households, gradually upping the insanity of the call the longer a person remained on the phone, and then the show recreated the phone calls using puppets and imaging what the callers must have been going through.
The show was hilarious and a favorite of many, despite being short-lived with only five seasons, four of which appeared on Comedy Central with the fifth appearing on MTV2.
The revival is set to feature prank calls through a variety of means, including the phone. Social media and e-sports are just a couple of the newly named targets.
Kimmel is ecstatic about bringing the show back. He stated, “Crank Yankers has always been my favorite show to make. Nothing is more fun or makes me laugh harder than a great crank call and I am thrilled that Comedy Central asked us to do it again. At this time, I would like to ask all Americans to disable their caller ID. Thank you.”
Crank Yankers has been approved for 20 episodes for its revival season, with more on the way if the show picks up a good audience.
