Mattel and ‘Star Wars’ collaborate on 3 new Barbie Dolls.

Barbie creators Mattel have collaborated to create a new series of Star Wars dolls. The dolls pay homage to the original film Star Wars: A New Hope by showcasing 3 of the most iconic characters.

There are currently 3 dolls available, inspired by the concept art from the film, with a signature Barbie flair about them.

The first doll showcases a Darth Vader-esque outfit that Anna Wintour herself would be inspired by. Losing the signature helmet, it allows the cape to be the main feature, with a flourish of imperial red.

There is also a Princess Leia inspired doll, with a new twist on Carrie Fisher’s signature buns, and an Alliance Starbird clutch, this isn’t the first time Leia has received the doll treatment, but surely the most stylish of them.

And last, but definitely not least, is the uber cool R2D2 inspired doll. Screaming future chic, it uses R2D2’s rounded style to inspire the peplum skirt. His iconic blue squares feature not just in the clothing, but in the dolls hair and make-up too.

Retailing at around $100 each, they’re more expensive than your average barbie doll, but looking like you’ve just walked off a Vogue runway comes at a cost.

What do you think of the Star Wars and Barbie collaboration? What other characters from the Star Wars universe would you like to see getting the Barbie treatment?
