Gotham Character Spotlight: Oswald Cobblepot

Image: FOX From the moment he waddled onto our screen we loved him. Gone was the pudgy cartoonish Penguin from Batman stories past. Fox's Gotham took this legendary character and polished him up...slapped lipstick on the proverbial pig and gave us Robin Lord Taylor. I, for one, could not be happier about this more dapper rendition of Penguin. Simply put RLT owns this part. The hair, the walk...every last drop of it. With his portrayal of Penguin I actually like the character more. He seems more relatable with the less...

Gotham Character Spotlight: Barbara Kean

Image: FOX If you are a follower of the Batman comics and stories then you know that Jim Gordon and Barbara Kean get married. If you are a watcher of Fox's Gotham you are aware that this is clearly not the case. After she is kidnapped in season 1 by The Ogre she has a major mental breakdown and turns into possibly the craziest ex- girlfriend one as ever seen (just think Fatal Attraction x 1,000). After admitting to killing her parents she is committed to Arkham Asylum. Barbara seems...

‘Gotham: Rise of the Villains’ Recap ‘A Bitter Pill to Swallow’

Let’s start by saying that I just love the title of this episode, “A Bitter Pill to Swallow” because the title is spot-on to describe the emotional plateau every character has hit. The episode opens on a rainy, cloudy Gotham, where a newsstand owner opens a new stack of the Gotham Gazette, only to remind us that our beloved Mayor Galavan has been arrested. Of course Tabitha Galavan happens to be walking by and wanders into a dingy-looking bar. Here she asks for a “High Smith Royal no ice”, and...

‘Gotham: Rise of the Villains’ Recap ‘Damned if you Do’

After the inaugural season of Gotham left us with Bruce and Alfred finding what can only turn out to be the infamous “Bat Cave” and Penguin seizing control of the criminal underground I was anxious to see what they could do for Season 2: "Rise of the Villains". It starts out with a flash forward to one month after the Season 1 finale chaos. Penguin is exercising his ability to execute a defector in front of his minions. Gordon has been busted back to beat cop and creepy villainous Barbara...

‘Gotham’ Promises ‘Rise of the Villains’ in Season 2

Season 1 of Fox’s hit series Gotham did an amazing job of laying the ground work for what seems to be one of the best new-ish series out there. It was strong in character development and gave great back story to those characters we grew up with. It even brought in a character (Fish Mooney played by the exquisite Jada Pinkett-Smith) that we were not so familiar with and quickly put viewers in a love/hate relationship with her. The great thing about this series is it abolishes the campy cartoon...
