‘Aquaman’ Sequel Lands 2022 Release Date

Warner Bros. and DC are hoping to dominate the December box office once again in the year 2022, as the studios have announced today a set official release date for the upcoming Aquaman sequel. Aquaman 2 is currently set to splash down into theaters on December 16, 2022, Deadline reports.

The Aquaman sequel recently landed the original film’s co-writer, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, however, few other details have been released just yet. James Wan is producing along with Peter Safran, but no word yet on if he’ll return to the director’s chair. Additionally, a spin-off film is also in the works based on the monstrous sea creature, The Trench.

Aquaman has shattered records for Warner Bros. and DC at the global box office during its theatrical run. The film was released in December 2018 and surpassed the $1 billion mark topping the studio’s previous record with The Dark Knight Rises. The film claimed its crown atop DC’s earnings list and also became Warner Bros. third biggest movie ever globally.

Aquaman stars Jason Momoa in the titular role along with Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as the villainous Orm/Ocean Master), Temuera Morrison (as Tom Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus) and Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko).

James Wan directs with Peter Safran producing along with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Aquaman is coming to digital on March 5th and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on March 26th.
