Andrew Lincoln Won’t Be Returning to Direct in ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 10

Last year, The Walking Dead viewers encountered a moment they never saw coming. Andrew Lincoln, who played the iconic role of Rick Grimes on the series, officially announced his departure. It was a big change for the show’s fandom. However, Rick’s exit from the series didn’t seal his final fate. His story will continue throughout the already announced upcoming Walking Dead films, and Lincoln had plans to return to the show’s set to direct. Unfortunately, it now looks like that won’t be happening in season 10.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Lincoln’s return to direct just wasn’t in the cards for this coming season. Though, as previously announced, he did return to shadow a director on set, scheduling created difficulties for his return. As such, Andrew Lincoln’s directorial debut will be delayed just a bit longer.

Lincoln isn’t the only former cast member with their sights set on returning in a different capacity. Former series star Michael Cudlitz made his directorial debut during season 9 to direct the pivotal episode. Cudlitz has already directed another episode for the show’s 10th season and recently announced that he’s coming back for more! He will return to The Walking Dead set next month to direct his third episode.

The Walking Dead is certainly a show that likes to keep it within the family, and once you’re part of The Walking Dead family, you’re family for life. Hopefully, we’ll see Andrew Lincoln return to direct soon!

The Walking Dead cast and crew will take the stage at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 19th, at 1 PM PST. The show’s season 10 trailer will drop shortly after.
