‘Alita’ Star Offers Sequel Update

Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar, who starred as the title character, recently offered an update on a potential sequel. Speaking to Slash Film, Rosa also shared her enthusiasm for portraying Alita, the futuristic cyborg heroine, until her “last breath”.

“I would play Alita ‘til my last breath,” Salazar said. “I would, and thanks to the performance capture technology, I probably could.”

Alita: Battle Angel didn’t make a massive amount of money at the box office, earning just over $400 million worldwide, however, manga fans and critics responded fairly well to the ambitious adaptation.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Here is a short summary of what you can expect:

When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers to help trigger her memories.

If you did watch it then you’ll know that the film was left wide open, begging for a sequel. So is a sequel in the works?

The short answer is no. Well, not yet.

With 20th Century Fox being acquired by Disney, it appears as though their hands may be quite full at the moment.

“People are gaining jobs, people are losing jobs. The whole Disney/Fox acquisition is so involved, this isn’t the right time for me to call Alan Horn and be like, ‘Hey bro, I know you got a lotta stuff going on, but like what about Alita 2?’”

However, the star has called upon us, the fans, to help make a sequel possible. Salazar has urged fans to “buy those Blu-Rays” hoping that Fox will revitalize this vast and spectacular franchise.

  1. Looking forward to sequel, Disney has so many terrible movies, so it would be common sense for them to pick up a movie that is new and fresh to all audiences, not just disney families 😉
