‘Home Alone’ Reboot Headed to Disney Plus

Another reboot is headed your way on Disney Plus!  Disney is rebooting the Home Alone franchise and  Jojo Rabbit’s Archie Yates will star in the new film with Ellie Kemper (mom had to have red hair!) and Rob Delaney.

Saturday Night Live writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell penned the script and Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa) will direct the film.

According to THR, “sources say the project is being labeled Home Alone due to the similarities in concept, but in execution the project will have another title.”

The original 1990 film a bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O’Hara) makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true.

Kevin’s excitement sours when he realizes that two con men (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.

In the new story, according to THR’s sources, “Kemper and Delaney play a wife and husband who, in order to save their home from financial ruin, go to war with a kid who has stolen a priceless heirloom.” So it doesn’t quite sound like an exact reboot of the franchise. In fact, it doesn’t really sound like Home Alone at all.

What do you think about this new film on Disney Plus? Should they have even teased it as a Home Alone reboot if it isn’t exactly that?
