Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is almost here and it seems as though we may finally have an idea of the films overall length. Previously, we have only been able to speculate based on cinema information but now it looks as though we have an official runtime.

The predicted runtime for Episode IX was 2 hours and 35 minutes (155 minutes). This runtime would make it the longest Star Wars movie to date.

However, director J.J. Abrams has revealed the actual runtime. In an interview with EWLive on SiriusXM 109, Abrams stated that The Rise of Skywalker is “2 hours and 21 minutes” (141 minutes).

So, we weren’t far off. But, it should be noted that in the interview Abrams does add a “I believe” on the end, which means that the film could potentially be longer with credits or shorter. Regardless, it won’t be by a lot.

Now, where does this put The Rise of Skywalker in terms of runtime?

  • A New Hope – 121 minutes
  • The Empire Strikes Back — 124 minutes
  • Return of the Jedi — 131 minutes
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — 133 minutes
  • Solo: A Star Wars Story — 135 minutes
  • The Phantom Menace — 136 minutes
  • The Force Awakens — 138 minutes
  • Revenge of the Sith — 140 minutes
  • Rise of Skywalker — 141 minutes
  • Attack of the Clones — 142 minutes
  • The Last Jedi — 152 minutes

This makes Episode IX the 3rd longest Star Wars movie to date.

So there you have it.

What do you think? Is the runtime just right or do you think the finale needs to be longer? Let us know in the comments.
