‘House Of The Dragon’ Revealed by HBO

HBO is ready to move forward with a new prequel series to Game of Thrones called House of the Dragon. This series will take place 300 years before the events of the original series and will focus on House Targaryen.

The official Game of Thrones Twitter account announced the news hours after the other planned prequel series was reportedly cancelledThe Long Night which was set to star Naomi Watts, was going to focus primarily on the battle between the First Men and the Children of the Forest who joined forces to defeat the White Walkers.

You can check out their announcement right here.

The series is set to be produced by A Song of Ice and Fire author, George R.R Martin. The legendary author will partner with Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik to bring the vast history of the dragon-riding Targaryens to our screens.

According to the tweet, Sapochnik and Condal will be the overall showrunners of the series and will direct the pilot episode as well as additional episodes. This means that future announcements could include other directors that will direct the other episodes.

So, it looks as though this series will dive into the Targaryens. Considering only a few Targaryens appeared in Game of Thrones, there is still much that we don’t know about them. There is also the fact that Westeros was once home to many Dragons.

While my knowledge of Westeros and the Targaryen House is slightly rusty, setting the show 300 years before the primary events could mean that the infamous Balerion the Dread could play a role. Additionally, we could see multiple renowned members of the Targaryen family like Aegon the Conqueror. With so many differences between the book and the HBO’s series, it’s hard to tell what will be included.

But, now that the show has been confirmed we could start getting some more news surrounding the new prequel. Soon we should know more about the cast and the story itself. We will be sure to update you on all of the exciting news when it starts appearing. Despite my thoughts on Season 8, I am incredibly excited to see a different side to the Targaryen family.

For all of you Game of Thrones fans out there, what would you like to see in House of the Dragon? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
