Special Ops Returning To ‘Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’ Is A Bigger Deal Than We Think

We are less than two weeks away from one of the biggest entertainment releases of the year in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare. If we’re honest, we have seen less of this year’s game than we have any Call Of Duty to this point. Thankfully, Infinity Ward knows we need a look at the final piece of this puzzle. According to the previous roadmap for info release, we finally have a trailer for the Special Ops mode.

Special Ops is an extremely underrated portion of the Call Of Duty series. Believe it or not, there used to be a time where Call Of Duty was only campaign and multiplayer. Then Treyarch dropped a little zombie mission in World At War, and the rest is history. People forget Modern Warfare 2 followed that up with Special Ops, which also appeared in Modern Warfare 3.

Special Ops adds a different flavor to Call Of Duty. I know Zombies will forever be a go to mode for many, but the formula has grown stale in recent years. We have simply had too much of it. Special Ops retains that four player co-op mode while being different.

Special Ops is not just a horde mode, this year it’s actually an extension of the campaign. There are two ways to play, Operations and Missions. If you play Operations, you have more choice, from open assaults to stealthy invasions. Missions will be a bit more specific, with objectives and proficiency your goal.

The big deal with Special Ops? There is cross mode progression. What you do in Special Ops can help you in multiplayer. The better you play, the more rewards you will recieve, and those can be used in multiplayer. Examples given by Activision include unlockable items and equipment. To me this is a major inclusion. Being able to take my loadouts across modes and earn things that may help me in multiplayer encourages me to play said mode. You don’t get that in Zombies.

In any case, I’m very excited to play Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare. Are you excited for the game? Modern Warfare will release October 25th, 2019. It will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can pre-order now at participating retailers or go to CallOfDuty.com.
