‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Getting a Re-Release
Sony Pictures have decided to re-release Spider-Man: Far From Home in theaters in the United States and Canada. Here’s the best part, you get a bonus of…
Wait for it.
A whopping 4 minutes of never-before-seen footage.
That’s right! You can go and see a new extended cut of Spider-Man: Far From Home from August 29th. The extended cut will also be available in IMAX and other large formats in select locations.
To call it an “extended cut” might seem a bit much.
According to Variety, the 4 minute scene will be an action sequence. When watching the regular cut, I noticed that one scene that appeared in the trailers was absent. Donning his Iron Spider suit, Spider-Man engages in a brawl in a restaurant before sharing some banter with the local police.
At a guess, I would have placed this scene just before Spider-Man goes with Aunt May to a fundraiser. However, the brand new 4 minute scene could be something that was not included in the trailers. Perhaps an extended fight between Spider-Man and Mysterio? or even an extended fight with the Elementals.
When Avengers: Endgame was re-released, I could see the logic. It was re-released in a bid to top Avatar which, of course, it eventually did. In July, Avengers: Endgame became the highest grossing movie of all time.
With Spider-Man: Far From Home I can’t quite see the logic. It was never going to top Avengers: Endgame. Even without this so called extended cut, on Sunday, Spider-Man: Far From Home became Sony’s highest grossing movie, overtaking 007’s Skyfall.
They could have easily attached the new scene as a Blu-ray special feature, similar to how Avengers: Endgame approached their various deleted scenes. So, I can’t quite wrap my head around this.
What do you make of this “extended cut”? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
