SDCC 2019: ‘Supergirl’ Panel Announces New Season 5 Villains, Superheroes and Casting News

‘I don’t want to kill Supergirl. I just want her to experience the same hurt she inflicted on me’.

The cast of Supergirl is at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 for an emotional rollercoaster of a panel. Here are a few of the key highlights and what we learned.

Lex Luther will return during 2019’s Crossover

Jon Cryer moderated the Supergirl panel. We found out that he will be reprising his role for the CW’s huge crossover. This means Lex Luthor will be making an appearance during this year’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. We cannot wait.

Supergirl has a new suit!

The panel started by the whole crowd chanting ‘Pants’. Melissa Benoist’s new costume has been revealed to have trousers rather than a skirt, in a much more practical and realistic costume change.

Images of the suit were dropped on Benoist’s Instagram four days ago, but the official photographs have also been shared at San Diego Comic-Con today.

Meaghan Rath is joining the cast as a female Brainy!

We’ve found out that Meaghan Rath will be playing a female Brainiac-5 in Supergirl Season 5. She will join her real-life brother, Jesse Rath on-screen during the next season.

Julie Gonzalo is bringing Acrata to Season 5 as a villain to Supergirl

Julie Gonzalo and Staz Nair are also cast in Season 5. Gonzalo will play Andrea Rojas a villain whose alter ego is Acrata. She is a businesswoman with a tech empire who is likely to fight Lena Luther. She also has a mystical source that gives her superpowers.

Kara is getting her own antagonist as Staz Nair joins the cast as William Day

Staz Nair will play William Dey. He will be working at Catco and won’t get on well with Kara at all. He also has connections to the criminal underworld so they are setting up for an antagonistic fifth season.

Mehcad Brooks is leaving the show

There is sadness as Mehcad Brooks leaving the show was discussed. The cast went in for a huge group hug together!

Lena Luthor a villain?

The trailer for Season 5 has just dropped. It reveals that Lena Luthor will confront Supergirl with a punch to the face, calling her out and calling Supergirl ‘Kara’ whilst she is dressed in her superhero costume. Despite Lena’s words ‘I’m not a villain’ it would seem that she is being pitted against Kara and struggling to cope with Lex’s last words to her. Let’s hope she can pull through and fight past the villain that her Luthor family legacy wants her to become!

Supergirl will return in the fall.
