Hulu Takes On Stephen King’s ‘Eyes of the Dragon’!

Our watch has ended for Game of Thrones but, according to a Deadline Exclusive, there is a new heroic adaptation on the horizon! Hulu, after winning the rights over media giant Apple, has penned a deal for a pilot based on Stephen King’s bestselling fantasy novel, Eyes of the Dragon. Seth Grahame-Smith (Lego Batman Movie) will serve as writer and showrunner for the opening episode.

“I am so excited to be working in the world of Stephen King with Hulu, which has such a terrific track record with Stephen King adaptations,” – Seth Grahame-Smith

While Eyes of the Dragon takes a step outside King’s typical creepy creations, it encompasses the lore of his well-known epic tale, The Dark Tower. Who here has forgotten the face of their father? 😉

“Once upon a time, in the Kingdom of Delain, King Roland is murdered and his son and heir, Peter, is framed for the crime. Peter and his loyal friends must battle an evil wizard and Peter’s usurper brother, Thomas, for the throne. Imprisoned in a tower, Peter conceives an escape plan that will take him years to execute before taking on Flagg, the powerful sorcerer who has masterminded this coup.” Source: Goodreads

According to Deadline Eyes of the Dragon was attempted as movie and a series years ago but the book was apparently too challenging to adapt. The good news is that David Benioff & D.B. Weiss made it work for Game of Thrones, the bad news is that Nikolaj Arcel did not fare so well with The Dark Tower. Will Seth Grahame-Smith be able to conjure up a worthy adaptation? Constant Readers can only hope.

“The goal for this series is to feel unlike any Stephen King adaptation before, with this rich underlying source material, and the only true fantasy book he wrote that has kings and swords and princesses. We will honor the spirit of the book and the legacy.” – Seth Grahame-Smith
